Annex Membership

Annex membership is specifically geared to emerging and/or underrepresented regional artists seeking gallery experience and exposure in the Boston area. Annex members participate in one 3-person show in our Annex gallery space during their membership. Each exhibition is approximately one month and has a SoWa First Friday Art Walk. This is a low residency membership, and members do not participate in daily operations and decision-making. Applicants must have basic computer skills. Annex membership is capped at twenty-one members, and is one year term. Annex members may reapply in subsequent years; preference will be given to artists who have not previously exhibited in the Annex. 

Annex Member Prospectus

Annex membership provides experience and exposure in the Boston area and to the vast Fountain Street network. Annex members participate in one 3-person show in our Annex gallery space, and access the Gallery’s marketing and social media platforms. Annex Shows are curated and installed by Fountain Street Core members in coordination with the exhibiting artists, and are promoted on the Fountain Street Gallery website, social media. Annex shows are included in our monthly email newsletter to over 2,700 recipients, which includes patrons as well as art industry professionals. This is a low residency membership and members do not participate in daily operations and decision making. Applicants must have basic computer skills. Associate membership is capped at fifteen members.

This level of membership could be right for you if you are an emerging or underrepresented artist looking to increase your visibility and/or is someone who would like guidance with curation and professional development. Annex membership may not be a good fit for you if you are an established artist with an an exhibition history, or if you have a considerable amount of curatorial experience.

Eligibility

All artists regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identification, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or disability are encouraged to apply.

• Artist may work in a single medium or embrace multiple mediums. All media are encouraged to apply.

• Fountain Street Gallery encourages work exploring social, cultural, historical, and/or political concepts.

• Artist must be 18 years or older.

Membership Acceptance

Annex members are selected by an application process juried by a committee of Core members. Applications for new Annex members are accepted in October of each year and membership begins in the next calendar year. Applicants will be notified of acceptance in early December. Exhibitions will take place during the months of April–November. Annex membership is capped at twenty-one members, and is a one year term. Annex members may reapply in subsequent years; preference will be given to artists who have not previously exhibited in the Annex.

• There is no fee to apply; the application is competitive, and artists are not guaranteed acceptance.

ANNEX MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

• Limited to 15 Annex Members

• 1 year term, with ability to re-apply

• Membership applications reviewed yearly, no guaranteed acceptance/re-acceptance

• Guidance in exhibition development and promotion

• Sales commission of 60/40 (Artist/Gallery)

• One 3-person exhibition in the Annex Gallery

  • Reception is coordinated by the Gallery

  • Gallery creates and distributes a general Annex Show Press Release at the beginning of the calendar year

    • The general Annex Press Release is available on the Fountain Street “Upcoming Exhibit” page

    • Individual group show press release statements are made available on the show website

      • Annex Members are encouraged to distribute their show press release at least 1-3 months before the show opening

  • Gallery designs a digital exhibition postcard

    • The Gallery does not print postcards

    • The Gallery does not mail postcards

  • Additional promotional expenses not included

• 1 free artwork submission (during membership year) to Fountain Street’s juried call-for-art exhibitions

• Gallery website representation (includes 1 artwork image with link to Annex show page)

• Annex artists are encouraged to participate in the Fountain Street’s monthly Artist News feature highlighting artistic practice outside of Fountain Street activities

• Access to create content for Fountain Street’s blog, “Growing a Gallery”

• Access to participate in Fountain Street’s marketing and social media campaigns

ANNEX MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

• $500 membership fee

• Annex artists may opt to further promote their exhibition through print collateral, display ads, as well as social media, at their own expense. All digital and printed collateral with Fountain Street mentioned/represented must be approved by the gallery director.

• Annex artists provide all necessary installation hardware and comprehensive installation guidelines for their work for their group show. A limited number of pedestals for 3D work may be available through the gallery.

Annex Member Application Requirements

The application for Annex Membership is online only through an application form. Emailed submissions will not be considered.  Annex applicants are juried by a committee of Core Members.

To apply, please submit the following information:

• Artist Statement (1st person, 300 word limit)

• Artist Bio (3rd person, 150 word limit)

• Current CV/Exhibition History (pdf)

• Image information including the title, media, dimensions, and price for the corresponding images submitted

• 5 jpeg images of artwork created within the past three years. FILES MUST BE LABELED artist lastname_title.jpg
  Upload  JPEG files, 300dpi, 6 in. longest side. If submitting 3D pieces, you may upload one additional image in the upload section for that specific piece.
