Place and Memory

Iris Osterman and Kathy Soles

March 9–April 2, 2017
Reception:  March 18, 5–7pm

Fountain Street Fine Art presents paintings and works on paper by Iris Osterman and Kathy Soles. The work here relies on each artist’s distinct experience of nature as filtered by memory. Through dense accumulations of paint and drawing materials in conjunction with open passages, these artists explore metaphoric possibilities that result from their contemplation of nature. The energetic use of line and form are their common language.

Soles works on large, panel-backed canvases in lush color. Her monochromatic work on paper mirrors the sensuality of her paintings. Osterman uses oils, wax, graphite and charcoal in a subdued palette. The boundary here between painting and drawing are fluid. Though similar in the obvious enjoyment of paint and a visceral reaction to the observed, each emerges with a highly individual vision.

Osterman has exhibited her work in numerous one-person and group shows in Massachusetts and nationally. Most recently she has shown at the Bowery Gallery, NYC and the Landau Gallery, Belmont, MA.

Soles has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions nationally.  Her most recent exhibition venues include the Trustman Gallery at Simmons College, and Hallspace Gallery, Dorchester,  MA.
