Around the Curve

Marie Craig

May 14–June 7, 2015
Reception:
May 16, 5–7 p.m.

Marie Craig photographs places and things that have a hidden, forgotten beauty within them. This series of pictures, of curbside chairs in the suburbs, was begun in 2007.  In the process, she became obsessed, curious about evidence of the chairs’ history and secrets they held, and surprised by the unexpected color, light and texture she found.

When it hits the curb, the chair is at a turning point. What happens next? The photographs present an opportunity to reflect on the consumerism, consumption, disposability that is rampant in the suburban lifestyle.

A life-long Massachusetts resident, Marie Craig’s work has received a number of awards, and has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the Boston area.
